Welcome to Nawimbe! This is the last term of our school year and the children will continue progressing with great learning as they are preparing for year 3. Here's an opportunity to share with you some of the amazing things we have been learning in class.
We have started this term by looking at the book ''Nelson Mandela and his struggle to freedom'' in relation to our topic People who made a difference. Later we will look at ''Martin Luther King'' and Sir Harry Johnston.
We are encouraging the children to continue using punctuation in their independent writing and focusing on using more complex forms, such as apostrophes and speech marks. We are also working on encouraging children to add more detail to their writing (by using adjectives and adverbs). The children will continue to develop communication skills through regular speaking and listening activities including acting and expressing feelings. After the half term we will learn a lot about habitats and continue promoting the reading habit in children.
This term in Mathematics, the children will continue to develop their understanding of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. This will be taught through a problem solving approach, involving number and money. Other aspects of mathematics including learning about place value, solving shape and space problems and measuring length and weight and including capacity Where possible a strong emphasis will be placed on supporting children with learning their 2, 5 and 10 multiples (times tables).
Among other class activities, in Science and Geography we continued studying plants. We had different experiments at our small garden and later we visited several gardens and compared healthy and unhealthy plants. During this first half term we will focus on growth and survival of animals including human beings and after the half term we will focus on super scientist and explore daily Materials.
We looked at different artists and created lots of amazing art. We have been studying other cultures around the world and created mandalas in relation to Indian tradition. We have started this term by looking at Henri Rousseau art and later shift focus to earth art and sculpture creating.
Our focus this term will be football and different ball skills, as we are approach the cold season, we will no longer be swimming instead the children will develop different skills in gymnastics and imitate different dances around the world.
