Welcome to Chiradzulu Class! A new school year and a new crop of kids!
This first term there is a huge emphasis placed on correct letter formation, writing on the line, remembering finger spaces between words and using punctuation - a LOT to be remembered! We will be making lists, labels and instructions, all linked in with our class books of Oliver's vegetables, Oliver's fruit salad and the Healthy Wolf. We will revise the phonics covered in Reception before moving on to more complex graphemes.
We will start by focusing on number skills and place value. We will move on to addition, subtraction, simple single step problem solving as well as shape and measure. We will learn number facts to 10 and improve the speed of our mental maths.
Our topic this term is fabulous food and healthy living. There will be activities linked across the curriculum especially in science, geography and art. We will focus on where specific food comes from across the 7 continents, how food changes and the benefits of healthy living. We will look at the basic food groups and carry out simple science experiments. In Art we will explore the colour wheel and colour mixing as well as looking at the style of the artist Archimbaldo, whose artwork is primarily designed from food!
