Happy New Year, Happy 2017, Happy Term 2 !!
This term we will be retelling, acting out and writing more creative stories on traditional tales. Props of finger puppets, face masks and audio recordings will be used to enhance our drama and writing experience. We will continue to focus on correct punctuation, adjectives and start using connectives and adverbs for more exciting writing. We will promote neat handwriting with correct formation and spacing.
This term we will continue working on number, place value, time and money. To reinforce the concept of money, addition and subtraction we will be setting up a class shop, having a sale and using kwacha coins. in measuring this term we will look at weight and capacity with lots of hands on practical activities. Simple arrays will be introduced as an introduction to practical multiplication. We will practice number stories and bonds within 20 and work on the speed of our mental recall in maths, as well as using a variety of addition and subtraction strategies find the correct answers. 'Counting on' and using a number line is a key concept which will be covered.
Science this term is all about weather, plants and growing things. To link in with our literacy traditional tales, especially Jack and the beanstalk, we will be growing beans. We will carry out simple scientific experiments and use the shapes of curiosity to record our observations and results. We will learn about plants and what they need to grow, wild flowers, trees, plants we can eat and the life-cycle of a sunflower.
In History, we will be peeping into the past, starting with ourselves and how we have changed since we were babies. We will learn about our family tree and compare how the school day, the games we play and the toys we use, have changed from when our grandparents where young to present. Our families will help by completing various questionnaires.
